Christmas (2015) in July

Here I am, wondering how I’ll ever get this blog caught up after a nearly year-long pause…. what better place to start than Christmas? Now that we’re well over 6 months past the holidays, the stress has been forgotten and the amazingness has lingered. This past year was especially great as we got the one thing we wanted but the last thing we expected…. my sister. My dad seamlessly pulled off the surprise of a lifetime. After a lot of deliberation Jory had decided she wouldn’t make it home from North Carolina for Christmas. This would be a first and our spirits were low. Little did we know she and my dad...

Go Emme, It’s Your Birthday!

There are just too many awesome things about turning 5! Forget about nap time — you get to start school, your brain is exploding with knowledge, you make new friends, you can refill your cup all by yourself since you can now reach the water dispenser, you invent and create party machines and alphabet games, you make your own sandwiches, animals and art are still your passions, you’re very serious about keeping up with sweeping the leaves off the deck, your self-confidence and independence are growing by the day, but you still love to sneak in bed with me every night for a good snuggle. We celebrated the birthday girl this year with...

Christmas 2014

Better late than never, right?! I hope this finds you happy and healthy in the new year! I swear each year the holidays get a little crazier and I need more and more time just to recover. This year especially after the influenza bug took down our household and hijacked my one week of planned vacation for the year. After a pathetic week of accomplishing absolutely nothing, it was back to snow-covered reality. Thankfully we were able to have an amazing Christmas before this all went down. This was Emerson’s year to spend Christmas Eve with her dad; while I know she had a wonderful time with him and his family, she was...

Easter Bunny Bonanza

The only day of the year Emerson will go near eggs: Easter! After a yummy family dinner and cheesecake, Em finally got to have her egg hunt. She’d been looking into the whereabouts of her Easter eggs from last year for quite some time, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t look forward to this holiday myself. She shrieked with delight while running through the yard collecting all 58 eggs. There’s definitely something to be said about the weather allowing us to hunt eggs outside — it was the epitome of a perfect day at a whopping 75 degrees!  After all the eggs were opened and their contents were sorted out, E...

Christmas 2013: It’s a Wrap!

Before I can truly embrace the new year, I need to officially wrap-up 2013. We ended the year in good company and had a wonderful holiday! I was beyond excited to start a new tradition this year for Emerson and the ‘Great Santa Scavenge’ was born! Incorporating a scavenger hunt with any holiday is always win-win in my opinion! Christmas Eve morning, I hid a series of clues around the house to lead Emerson to a special gift from Santa (she was SUCH a good girl this year he wanted to surprise her a day early). I cannot begin to explain how much fun she had! She tore around the...
