Christmas Staycation

We hope everyone had a joyful Christmas this year! Emerging from a week of relaxation in Spirit Lake I am feeling dazed to say the least. Where am I? What day is it? What YEAR is it? Blog, what blog? Now that we’re home and back into the daily swing of things, it’s time to share some holiday joy! The past few weeks have been a blur – just like every other holiday in my experience. Emerson spent Christmas with my family this year and since being home we’ve noticed some definite spoilage after constant attention from aunts and grandparents! Emme was the first to begin opening gifts and the last...

The Bright Side

While Emerson’s first milestones (rolling-over, crawling, walking…etc) have been very exciting, I find myself equally amazed by the subtle habits she picks up every day. Top 10 of my favorite Emerson-isms: 10. Holding any object up to her ear and saying, “Hi.” 9. Stepping into Nic’s shoes and attempting to walk around. 8. Draping household items (belts, socks… anything long and skinny) around her neck as if they were necklaces or scarves. 7. Putting the bathmat in the tub while I’m getting the water ready. 6. Pointing to every picture hanging on the wall while “oohing” as we walk by. 5. Saying “baby” when we see kids. 4. Singing “Ee-I-Ee-I-Oh!”...

Sweet Sleep

I CANNOT believe it! Every couple of weeks Emerson will sleep through the night a few times, but today is especially grand because everyone slept in! For the first time in over a year I slept soundly through the night without a single interruption until 8am. Even if this is a once a year occurrence, I’m thrilled to know it’s possible! Here’s Emme after a full night of beauty sleep....

Girl Friends

Can I just say how wonderful it is to sit back and watch my friends fall under the spell of my daughter? Thinking back to the ‘pre-mom’ days I am not sure I was quite as outgoing and loving with young children as my friends are with Emerson. Their support throughout the past year has meant the world to me and while many of them are not yet aboard the baby train, I know they will all be outstanding mothers. You know who you are, I love you all! A very close friend recently moved to Pella; it’s been nothing but a blessing. Not only do we work together but...

10 Fingers, 10 Toes, 10 Months

Is it just me or does 10 months seem significantly older than 9 months?  Every day is a new adventure when they change so quickly.  We’ve come quite a long way in a short amount of time. Emerson has grown from 19.5 inches when she was born to 30 inches! She’s become an adventurous eater, sound sleeper, and colorful comedian. In the past month she’s had a 48 hr stomach flu, an eye infection and 6 new teeth! Completely hardcore if you ask me! Even with all that trauma we’ve managed to have a great month! She’s mastered extreme crawling in which she acts like a dog and runs around...
