Memorial Daze

Memorial Day weekend signifies many different things to many different people: nationally we honor those who served and died in the U.S. military; locally it represents the beginning of summer tourism and the opening of seasonal restaurants and shops; and for our family this year it was our send-off for my youngest sister who moved across the country. Emerson was excited all week to spend some quality time with her aunties. We took advantage of Mimi’s last day with tons of girl-time including snuggles and a special shopping trip to adopt the newest member of our family: Shelly the hermit crab. Memorial Day itself was threatened by rain resulting in a cancelled parade...

So Long Summer

We’re well into August and I think it’s time to say good-bye to summer and hello to fall. From my lack of posts these past few months its safe to assume one of two things: #1 I’ve been way too busy to think about blogging; or #2 This summer was way too dull to blog about. Of course it’s #1. Between moving, painting, unpacking, work and freelance, plus fitting in some fun here and there (plenty of it) it’s been one crazy summer. Emerson pretty much summed up our afternoon yesterday when she said, “My feet are schfeating (sweating)! I can’t believe I’m saying this… I am too hot outside!” It was the most beautiful day we’ve enjoyed outside for months it seems. We played until the sun went to bed, mostly gathering or raking leaves. E has been making these lovely leaf bouquets lately which are actually really pretty in their own rustic way. She also gathered a variety of leaves that fit into the...

Amusing Park

I realized just how big Emerson has gotten when Papa, Gaga, and I took her to Arnold’s Park last weekend.  It wasn’t until I noticed kids her size and smaller riding the ‘Fishies’ that we actually decided to give it a try. The look on her face was priceless when the machine began to move… fear, anticipation, excitement and wonder all wrapped up into one face. After a few spins around she began to relax and enjoy herself. It was a beautiful post-4th weekend spent riding the Merry-Go-Round, train, Fishies, and Dragon! True to form, Emerson found several good rocks and sticks around the park which she gripped tight throughout...
