Iowa City or Bust

I’ve had a major itch to plan a weekend getaway all winter; now that the weather is beginning to hint at spring the time had come to get out of the house! We had the perfect excuse to visit my sisters in Iowa City this past weekend and made a nice little weekend of it. It’s hard to believe my youngest sister will be graduating from Iowa in a few short months. I couldn’t be prouder that she’s followed in my footsteps as a Graphic Design major! This excites me for many reasons (family business?!) but I have seriously been looking forward to her BFA gallery show for months and...

Six More Weeks?

“A Super Bowl winner, I will not predict. But my weather forecast you cannot contradict, why that’s not a football but my shadow I see. Six more weeks of winter it must be.” – Punxsutawney Phil Straight from the mouth of the beloved groundhog, Phil, in just a little more than 6 weeks winter will be all but a cold memory. Not only am I looking forward to warmer weather for my own well-being, I’m desperately hoping Phil’s predictions are correct for the sake of Emerson’s winter outerwear. Last weekend we took some measurements after discovering her snow-pants were now more accurately snow-capris and barely came down to cover the...

Christmas 2013: It’s a Wrap!

Before I can truly embrace the new year, I need to officially wrap-up 2013. We ended the year in good company and had a wonderful holiday! I was beyond excited to start a new tradition this year for Emerson and the ‘Great Santa Scavenge’ was born! Incorporating a scavenger hunt with any holiday is always win-win in my opinion! Christmas Eve morning, I hid a series of clues around the house to lead Emerson to a special gift from Santa (she was SUCH a good girl this year he wanted to surprise her a day early). I cannot begin to explain how much fun she had! She tore around the...

Circus Review

The circus came to town this weekend and I’ve never seen my mom more excited than when she won tickets from KUOO for the whole family. Emerson woke up several days in a row expressing great excitement towards visiting the Big-Top. Saturday finally arrived and the suspense built right through nap-time and finally peaked as we arrived and she caught her first glance at elephants, ponies, clowns, and a bounce house. It was more than enough stimulation for a two-year old  (at times probably too much). Emerson and I hopped on the back of an elephant as quick as we could! She was amazed by their trunks and how they...

Papa’s Girl

Emerson is truly crazy about each of her grandparents, but last weekend Papa was definitely her chosen playmate. From the moment he walked in the door Friday night after work she kept him busy. They snuggled up in a ‘fort’ Em made, she doctored him up with lots of band-aids and baby bottles, and they even managed to do some sledding before the last of our snow melted.  ...
